The Equilibrium Therapy® Magnetic Back Pad begins to have a positive effect within one hour. It can be left on the horse all night, either alone or underneath a sheet to keep it clean, or under the horse’s usual rugs. By using magnetic therapy you can speed up the time if takes your horse to recover from injury or from a longer term chronic condition.
Equilibrium chooses to use Vitaflex® magnets. These can be used on any part of the horse’s body without any pressure or weight problems. They flat and very flexible so that they can be bent over the spine or around the wither.
Most magnets are Neodymium and only present one pole to the body. This means they only repel or attract blood vessels of opposite charge to the magnet, making them half as effective. VITAflex® magnets are twice as effective as they present both positive and negative poles to the body. By encouraging the constant repelling or attracting the blood cells, VITAflex ® magnets are highly effective at keeping cells in an active regenerating state. VITAflex® magnets possess strong, circular and permanent magnetic fields of alternating pole sequences which can penetrate deeply into the body tissue. If you look carefully you can see circles etched into the surface of the magnets. These circles present alternating north and south poles which both repel and attract blood cells, which in turn increase the cell’s ability to repair.
When applied to a troubled area, minute electrical voltages are created. The electrically conductive blood moves within the blood vessels under alternating magnetic fields, therefore building up voltage and making the cells excited (this is known as the Hall effect). This excited state helps improve cell metabolism encouraging cells to regenerate much quicker.
In addition, they have a heat insulating structure in the form of extremely thin gold or platinum coloured aluminium reflector. This results in a slight local warming where the magnet touches the skin and dilation of the blood vessels, thereby improving circulation which accelerates the influx of nutrients and the removal of toxins.
The magnets are in handy, removable pouches making the magnetic pad is easy to wash. Just pop it in an old pillow case (to protect the buckles) and wash at 30C in the washing machine. Use a non biological detergent as many horses are sensitive to the enzymes used in biological detergents
Both the magnetic back pad and the Quarters Pad are designed to fit a wide range of sizes by simply adjusting the straps. The quarters pad was launched in spring of this year at the request of horse owners who wanted to use the magnets on the horse’s pelvis and stifle joints. The quarters pad easily attaches itself to the magnetic pad so that the length can be adjusted and the magnets are moveable as they are in the back pad.
Magnetic therapy is fantastic for relieving pain and reducing inflammation but to improve flexibility use the Massage Pad.
